ONE ACTS

SEX WITH THE CENSOR
By Theresa Rebeck
Gonzaga University

A man hires a prostitute for the night, but refuses to let her touch him or talk dirty. How does a person have sex without really having sex? In this dark, provocative one-act drama, Theresa Rebeck confronts our society's dual fascination with and censorship of sex, and questions the true motive of sexual desire.

Sex With the Censor was part of a showcase of one-act plays presented as the final project for Gonzaga University's Directing II course. The theme for the showcase was Prognosis, centering around shows that examine particular problems in our world and how they will mutate if things don't change. It was produced, directed and acted by an all-student ensemble.

FATHER COMES HOME FROM THE WARS (from 365 Days/365 Plays)
By Suzan-Lori Parks
Terrain

A father comes home from the wars over and over again, to a family that will never be the same. This "thread" of plays from Suzan-Lori Parks' project 365 Days/365 Plays expresses the timeless struggle of holding on to who we are, in a country that forces us to fight battles we didn’t choose for ourselves.

Father Comes Home From the Wars was part of a showcase presented as the final project for Gonzaga University's Directing I course. Called War No More, the showcase was a "collaborative effort between students to engage the past, present and future of what war means to those same families, communities and nations. Students from directing, acting and design perspectives worked together to present dual art installations and play excerpts on the subject." It was presented jointly by Gonzaga University and the Spokane-based art collective Terrain.
